About Sharon

It seems I always wanted to sew! Sewing has been a big part of my entire family. My grandfather was a tailor who also taught tailoring and, of course, he passed his skills to his daughter, my mother.

When I was about 12 years old, I begged my mother to teach me how to sew. She told me she could not teach me because it would be too hard, you see she was left-handed and I was right-handed. Eventually Mom gave in to me. I was so excited!

The very first item I made was my Easter dress.  Not an easy project for a little girl!  My Mom made a matching dress for herself in different colors.  I could not have been more proud when we appeared together in those dresses.

When I was older, Grandpa gave me sewing tips, but by that then I had studied Home Economics (called Family and Consumer Science today) and I thought I knew most everything about sewing!  Grandpa was a very skilled tailor, which is almost a lost talent today. I did learn what Grandpa patiently taught to me, and today I apply those skills to each and every project. I think Grandpa would be pleased.

My grandmother showed me how to make quilts.  Each summer I would spend a week with my grandparents and Grandma would spend that time tying quilts with me. Many years later, my cousin who lives in Nevada mentioned she liked to quilt.  She said our Grandma taught her!  I had thought I was the only one! Every time I make a quilt I remember those long-ago summer days quilting with my Grandma.

When I was in college everyone wanted to know where I bought my clothes. When I explained I made them myself, people asked me if I would sew for them.  So one of the first ways I earned money was sewing custom-ordered clothes.

I have never stopped sewing and I love to learn new techniques and tips! Through the years  I have taken many classes,  including Husqvarna Viking Certified Instructor Training.  It was a pleasure to meet sewing professional Sue Hausmann.  When time allows, I teach Beginning Sewing through local community education groups. In addition, I am always reading sewing journals and talking with people in the industry.

Sewing is my passion!  Please view the photos in my Gallery to see the wide-variety of projects I have recently completed.  I hope I have inspired you to let me sew something special for you or a loved-one!
